mup.sys problems

Does anyone know what causes a bootup hang at mup.sys? I've got a machine
that will not boot normally nor in safe mode. Is there a patch? A
workaround?

Any help would be appreciated.

It's not hanging on mup.sys, although that's the file that always gets
the blame. MUP.SYS is always the last system file to load; whatever
is stopping you boot occurs afterwards. Usually it is related to some
video error, but it could be anything.

mup.sys is normally the last file that gets loaded, and is probably not
involved. Something is failing in initialisation; and it is not some
driver like the video one where a different basic one is loaded in Safe
Mode. About all I can suggest is to see if the option to boot Safe Mode
- Command Prompt will work, if so use the command
c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
to load System Restore and go back to an earlier point.

If that does not work then it is a case for a repair reinstall
