Ststem restore - System checkpoint

My computer seems to be making a "system checkpoint' restore point
just about every day. I generally let the computer run all day & turn
it off at night. Are these daily restore points normal? How many
bytes does a single restore point use? I have set mine to use 3832
MBs (almost 4 GBs?), but I was told I should only need 2 GBs or even
just 1GB for system restore..

Any input appreciated.

This is normal. By default, System Restore creates automatic Restore Points (called as "System Checkpoints") every 24 Hrs. And the automatic checkpoints are created if the Task Scheduler service is on. Takes 12% of the HDD space, and it's usually not needed to alter the %. If you wish to clear the Restore Points, use Disk Cleanup and remove all R.Points except the recent one.

Hi

Yes SR creates a checkpoint every 24 hours. I have allowed SR 500 MBs which
is enough for about 6/7 checkpoints. 4 GBs, IMHO, is far too much.

I agree with you on the 500 MB's, that's enough. If someone has a 100 GB
drive, or so, the default 12% is gross overkill. I would like to add that
the check-point will only be added every 24 Hr's if there is idle time on
the PC to create one. If there are applications running all the time the
computer is on, no check-point will be created that day.

Hi

The 12% default settings for drives nowadays is far too excessive. Yes, if
a program like Seti@home - for instance - is running in the background, then
it is very unlikely that any SR checkpoints will be created.
