Can't System Restore

I recently was having a problem with not getting my screensaver to do what it
was supposed to do. Being impatient, I went ahead and tried the system
restore thinking that the worst thing that would happen would be to need to
reinstall everything back to the chosen restore point. The computer told me
the it couldn't restore me back to the checkpoint that I'd picked. It did
this three times with three different points. What would prevent the System
Restore from restoring?? All my choices were qualified "Bold" print dates on
the months displayed. I'm running an Athlon 64x2 4200 w/ 2GB DDR

Hi,

The restore points, or their indexes, are corrupt and unusable. The only
solution generally here is to disable it, then clear the files and restart
it. Start/run services.msc, locate the SR service and doubleclick it. Click
the stop button, then set the startup type dropdown to disabled. Click
apply/ok, then reboot.

Then, check the "System Volume Information folder" on each drive (you may
need to set folder options/view tab to see hidden and system folders for
this) and delete any contents. Reverse the steps to restart it.

Be forewarned that doing this removes all existing restore points, but it
doesn't really matter as they weren't working anyways.
