strange usb gaming device problem

HI

I have trouble with all my usb gaming devices, when I enter any game, they all give input to the game to look down. If I diable the joystick, the games work fine. When I enable it, the view immediatly goes to the floor, and stays there. The view can be moved with the mouse, but will return as soon as the mouse stops moving

my usb devices are an Axispad gamepad, and a Saitek st90 joystick. Both are new within 4 weeks. Both have the same problem, so I believe the gamepad and joystick are not the problem. The joystick did work fine for 2 weeks, then started having the problem

The games I am playing are Unreal 2003, Battlefield 1942, and Americas Army. All have the same symptom, so I believe it is not the games

I have since flashed the bios, update the video and sound drivers, re-installed the usb driver, and unplugged all other usb devices. My hardware is Asus 8X-E motherboard,Amd 2.8, 1 gig Corsair ram, all new componets, only 2 months old. Direct X 9.0b is installed, OS is win 200 pro

I am out of ideas. Anyone have a more detailed knowledge of how to troubleshoot my problem

Thanks for any help in advanc

What effect does calibration from game controllers on control panel have?
Saitek has a forum right on their site.

The calibration works fine in the control panel. As long as the control panel is open, everything seems normal for both joystick and game pad. But as soon as I launch any game, the problem appears again

Thanks

When did you install dx9b? Once I went from 8.x to 9 alot of diff. things
happened that I'm starting to wonder if dx9 maybe. Hard to correlate because
I didn't pay much attention at first. Going to put a fresh install of xp on
one and see what happens with dx8. You might also try setting up a profile
that loads only what you need to run the game, if you haven't done so
already, no printer no virus scan, no network....

The joystick had the problem with directx 8. Then I installed directx9b, and after that, bought the gamepad.

I'm still stumped, anyone else have a clue?

Thanks

Can you give me more details about what you are seeing? Are you getting
error messages? If so, what do they say exactly? What makes and models of
game devices do you have? How do they connect? Did you install the software
that came with the device?

Another thing you could do that might help is to attach a DX Diagnostic
report for me. That would tell me what your hardware was.

DXDIAG:
1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type "dxdiag" without the quotes and press Ok.
3. In the DirectX Diagnostic tool click "Save All Information..."
4. Attach output to your reply.

All I see is my point of view going down. For example, when you normally log into a game, you are looking straight ahead at the horizon. What I see is I start at this view, then my view steadily goes down to the ground/floor. And there it stays. I can give input with the mouse, and the view will respond to looking up, but as soon as I release, it goes back down
It's like the down button on the gamepad was taped down. There are no error message or warnings. As soon as I disable the joystick or gamepad, all is fine with the mouse

I have a joystick brand Saitek, model ST9
I have a gamepad, brand Axispad (Game Elements), model gge900, driver #2.80 (2003.03
both use us
only the gamepad came with software, and I did install it. The joystick did not have software with it
Below is the dxdiag contents

Thanks for the help

It sounds like one or both of your devices isn't calibrated correctly. Here
is some things for you to try:

Try calibrating the devices.
For each device do the following:
1. Start -> Run -> Control Panel
2. Switch to "Classic View".
3. Run the Gaming Options control
4. In Gaming Options Click the "Properties" button.
5. In the Properties page select the Settings tab at the top
6. Click the Calibrate button.
7. Follow the calibration instructions.

After calibrating you should be able to test your device on the test tab to
see if the axis positions are in the center when you are not inputting
movement to the device. See if it looks different before and after
calibration. I am not sure where or if the Game Elements Gamepad is going to
use their own calibration utility. If the above instructions don't work for
it see if the software has a calibration utility in it somewhere. If it is
USB you can always try uninstalling the devices software and just plug it in
like the Saitek device. Almost all USB game devices will work without the
software they come with. This doesn't always hold true though for some
really old USB devices and most Force Feedback devices. The Rumble gamepads
like yours will often work without the included software but will usually
lose the rumble capabilities. If it doesn't have a calibration utility in
its software and the instructions above don't work for the gamepad then try
to uninstall the software, re-plug the device, calibrate as above, then
reinstall the software. It is a long shot but that might work. Let me know
if you run into trouble.

yep. first thing I tried was recalibrating them. In the recalibration screen, everything looks fine. all buttons work, all the movements go to the edges, etc. Still when entering the game, the same problem

I appreciate your efforts, any other ideas

Thanks

The games I am playing are Unreal 2003, Battlefield 1942, and Americas Army. All have the same symptom.
