Strange shutdown

A minor problem, but annoying just the same. Right before I click on the shut down button the screen goes weird and
changes to a repeating image all the way down the screen. It looks like the the top row of icons that are on the desktop, but in a repeating pattern. Kind of like the image that appears when you win at Solitaire, but not bouncing! Everything seems to work ok, it just looks silly.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

don't know but I've seen the same thing. Looks like whatever is
across the top portion of the screen smears down the entire length
of the screen. Bad I have no idea what's causing it. Good
you're not alone.
