Strange sharing problem

Guest

Team,
Can you please help? I have a strange sharing problem:
Have three computers: 1 desk top LAN connected to wireless router, 1 Dell
desk top connected wireless to wireless router and 1 laptop also connected
wireless to wireless router.
Problem: The Dell computer can see the other 2 computers and can access
share folders from the other 2 but the other 2 computers can not access the
Dell computer but can access share folders from each other. Note that when I
look into
view work group computers, I do see all three computer names. I have tried
many things but still can't make the Dell's computer accessible to the other
2.
Enclosed is the IP config, net config and browstat status of all three
computers:

Team,
Enclosed is the IP config, net config and browstat status of all three
computers:

Hi Le-Dinh,

You have 1 discrepancy here. DinhHa has Node Type of Hybrid, which will create
some latency. The other two computers have Node Type of Unknown, which is
treated as Broadcast in your case. Broadcast is a better choice for small LANs.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/address-resolution-on-lan.html#Hybrid>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/address-resolution-on-lan.html#Hybrid

And check the NetBT setting on all three computers - make sure that it's
explicitly set to Enabled.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/netbios-over-tcpip.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/netbios-over-tcpip.html

Beyond that, I'd start looking on DinhHa for overlooked firewalls and other
security components. What antivirus is running on DinhHa? Is DinhHa used on
any other networks? In any coffee shops or other public areas?

As a further observation, I'd advise the use of static IPs on computers
sharing files. If the lease expires the change of IP may confuse things.

Also, as a general policy I'd suggest storing files in only one place (and
ensuring that location gets backed-up regularly)

Three computers intermixing files may be tolerable, when it gets to five or
ten it quickly degenerates into a tangle. Better to start on the right
footing, and say metaphorically, "Here is the filing-cabinet. The files go in
HERE, and nowhere else."

All 3 computers now see each other. All 3 computers see 2 domains; I suspect
that each still remembers Workgroup, in addition to seeing Family right now.
Leave it be for a couple hours, and run browstat again.

You still have both DinhHa and TUYET-MAI-VU unable to access the registry on
SAMSUNG. What operating system and file sharing is Samsung running?

Chuck,
To answer your question, Samsung is using XP Pro 2002. How do I know if it
is with advance file sharing or with simple file sharing?
It looks like Browstat changes again depending on which computer is on
first. I don't understand this at all!!
1)when I had Samsung and Tuyetmai on after the Dell, both can't access
Family Domain.
2) When I had Samsung and Tuyetmai on before the Dell, the Browsat indicate
the Master browser is Tuyetmai and we get error # 53 unable to recognize
build of browser master , on both Dell and Samsung.

Example:

SAMSUNG PM
____________
Status for domain FAMILY on transport
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{BE7431BE-3912-4DB5-9AB8-13A36BE3273F}
Browsing is active on domain.

Browsing is active on domain.

Also,
3) Any way we can delete the domain Workgroup?

Tks for your help!!!

Le-Dinh,

The "domain" Workgroup will go away on its own, if no computers are there that
are a member. Be patient.

And you're right, when you reboot computers frequently the one coming online
first becomes the master browser. Read about the browser subsystem please:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/04/nt-browser-or-why-cant-i-always-see.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/04/nt-browser-or-why-cant-i-always-see.html

And read about Simple vs Advanced File Sharing:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Simple>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Simple

And about "error = 53" in browstat:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html#Error53>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html#Error53

Then please identify the edition and file sharing on each of the three
computers.
