Strange printing

Something has messed up the printing on my computer. Everything was
printing fine. Now, when I print something, there's a thin line that
seems to be skipped. It's like some of the ink jets are not shooting
out the ink. I thought I was low on ink, so refilled the cartridge;
then I thought maybe a clog in the print head.

Funny thing, though, if you do the printer's self-test page, it's fine.
If I go to a command prompt, and do a DIRectory command, but output it
to the printer, it's fine. It's only the printing within Windows, which
leads me to believe the driver, or a Windows file.

I didn't really keep track of when it occured, but I think happened
after I installed QuatroPro 5 (I have a couple of old spreadsheets that
haven't been upgraded yet). I've uninstalled it, but being a Windows
3.1 program, who knows how well behaved it really is when it get
uninstalled.

I've deleted the printer, restarted the computer and let Windows detect
my Canon BJC-250. I've deleted the printer, restarted the computer and
installed the XP driver from Canon's website (updated September 2001).
Nothing seems to restore the printing.

Help!

As in "no printing at all"....Reason being, once youve deleted canon, bits &
pieces of canon are probably still present.Delete canon from regedit, use
search
in my computer,etc..After all is eliminated, run pc a few times, then hook up
canon to other usb connection, you should get "found new hardware" wizard.
Also, dont ever run the "clean print heads" utility, one needs to open the
case to
where the print head rests & clean out brushes etc with Q-Tips & tap
water,get
the head to leave that area as you'd replace ink cartrige, then unplug
unit,clean,
clean,clean....Actually the colder weather causes ink foulups..
