Often when I download an MP3 (audio) from a newsgroup when I
play it the Length, Position, and kbps rate shown (I play them on the
MP3 player on IrfanView) constantly keep changing. On a normal MP3
download and play, it gives you this info and does not change. Does
anyone here have any ideas what is going on and if these files would
play on a CD player.

Thank you in advance to anyone on this group who might shed
some light on this situation.

Those files were probably encoded in "Variable Bit Rate", which compresses
the sound more in parts where not as much processing is needed. They will
play on your computer CD player, but I know of very few, if any,
stand-alone CD/DVD players that will play Variable Bit Rate files.

Thank you very much. You saved me lots of time and trouble.
