Media Player 11 in XP and mp3 files

I have a number of mp3 files that played perfectly in Media Player 9/10.
About 3/4 of them play fine in Media Player 11, but the rest just load,
and Media Player 11 . . . does nothing. These same files play fine in
the RealAudio player, but I would like all mp3's to play in Media
Player, where my default mode for mp3 files is set. Instinct tells me
this is a codec problem. Would anyone know which codec, and where I
could download it? IF not a codec problem, what is it? A Google search
on the problem yielded nothing.

Thanks,

Tony

Do the files actually show up in windows media player? If so, does it give
an error message or is it just no sound?

The file opens immediately in MP. It starts, then stops instantly. No
message of any kind, the "slider" does not move, no sound. And as I
said, this is only about 20% of my mp3 files, the rest play normally.

I seem to have nothing but trouble with WMP 11. I wonder whether I should
go back to 10.
