Media Player Problem

Dan

Hi,

I am using Windows XP home edition
Media player 10 ( I downloaded MP 11 beta and I still have the same
problem )

The Media player won't play video and music files, not even audio
files from a CD, or mp3 files.
The error message I get is : "Windows Media Player cannot play the file.
The
Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that
was used to compress the file."

After pressing "web help ", I got the following detailed information :

Original Error code : 80040218
Original Error Message : No combination of filters could be found to render
the stream.

I would like to add that realplayer is working fine and playing all the
audio files, therefore it's not a hardware problem.

Thanks in advance for your help

Check to see if Media Player is the default player for the file types you
are trying to play. Real Player has a nasty habit of assuming you want it
to be the default player on your system. This is why I haven't used Real
Player in over 5 years. There are other options for playing Real Media. In
fact, one of them is called "Real Alternative". Same for QuickTime.

Hi,

I don't think it has anything to do with being the default player.
If real player was my default player, then the files would automatically
open in real player.
In my case I am getting error messages, which suggest that WMP is unable to
play the files.
I think the problem could be related to operation system, not necessarily to
the media player itself.
