Problem with Media player

I am having problems editing and playing wmv files. Using Windows Movie
Maker, I am unable to edit wmv files. When it breaks up the original wmv
file into several smaller files for editing, I am able to edit only the
first one of those smaller files; all other clips will not play or allow any
editing to be done to them.

I am also having problems playing wmv files in Media player classic and
Creative media player. After I fast forward the video, the video plays at
8x speed for a few seconds then it resumes normal speed playback. This
problem does not happen while using Windows Media player.

I have no idea what is causing this, I guess I may have the wrong or bad
codec installed? I dont know?


Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I just noticed that movie maker does the same thing when fast forwarding the
video, it plays at 8x for a few seconds then returns to normal speed.
