Strange error message after restart

Hi, there. I recently built a new computer and installed XP Pro on it.
Everytime when I start the computer, I get the following error message:

"Windows cannot load locally stored files.Possible causes: Insufficient
security rights or corrupt local profile. Windows logging on with temporary
profile. Any changes made to profile will be lost when you log off."

After logging in this temporary profile, when I restart again, the message
disappears and I can reach my original profile and desktop.

I've already googled this problem. I also search it in MS Knowledge Base.
But I cannot find any clue. I appreciate any help. Thank you very much!

Are you using roaming profiles on a network location? If so, my guess would
be that your network adapter hasn't fully initialized by the time you're
first logging in. After logging off and back in again, the network adapter
has fully initialized.

Noboday can help? Please!

You've already gotten two answers. Did you try Bert Kinney's suggestion?
What happened when you tried? You say that you built this computer
yourself. Did you use all new parts? If Bert's suggestion doesn't work,
test your RAM and hard drive. It doesn't matter if they are new; test
them anyway. Post back with information about your computer and what
you've already tried if you need more help.

I'd say this solution looks too simple. It doesn't make much sense. I want to
emphasize that my profile is not really "corrupted". As I said, after
restarting again, everything comes back. This is consistent and I believe
there must be some hidden reason.

To create a new profile and copy everything to it is just like the strategy
of "format-and-re-install-OS". It may work in many cases. But it's just a
"by-pass" solution.

Hi, Mike. What do you mean by "roaming" profile? I do use Remote Destop to
restart my new computer. I'll try to see if the problem insists when I
restart locally.

Hi, Malke. Thanks for the reminder. However, Bert's suggestion deosn't make
much sense, I think. My profile is OK after one more restart. Just creating a
new profile and copying everything doesn't show any insight on this
phenomenon, and actually I googled this solution. That's why I come here to
ask advanced opinion.

The computer works fine so far. It has continously been working 24/7 for two
weeks. Sure I'll do the mem and hdd test again. But I really feel the big
chance is this is some software setting problem, instead of hardware failure.

The cause may very well be a software setting, but you haven't really
given us anything to work with so you can get focused troubleshooting.
In your first response to me, you said you have a new computer that you
built yourself. Now you say the computer works fine and has done so for
two weeks. You also say "mem and hdd test again" which suggests that
you have done hardware testing already. Did the problem occur from the
very beginning? If not, what changed between the time things worked and
the time they didn't?

You have to give a good picture of your machine, how it is working, the
problem, etc. for people to be able to give you the advanced opinion
you want. Remember, we don't know anything about you, your skill level,
what you've already done, etc. You have to tell us.

I am also having the same issue but on 30-40 computers on a network of about
200. User's call and complain of the same error. We tell them to reboot and
the issue goes away only to appear again...sometimes the next day sometimes
in a month. Happens on many of our servers as well. Deleting the profile
and recreating does seem to keep the problem from occuring again but this is
not the best solution on 30-40 workstations and 10-12 servers. We are in a
Windows 2003 Active Directory environment with our site as one OU of about
500 or so in one big US-wide AD environment. Only thing that seems related
was some IPSEC change on the domain controllers at the upper level (which we
don't access as we are only OU admins). Don't know any more than
that....problem seemed to occur after that but it may be a coincidence. We
don't use roaming profiles either. I thought maybe it has to do with how
long a user is logged on as it seemed to happen to users that never log off,
but I can't seem to find a pattern that supports that. Any tips would be
appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I am having the same issue here. I support just about 100 clients with Xp
Pro sp2. So far I have seen these problem on 3 systems. I created a new
profile by re-naming the so called corrupted profile and having the client
logon so windows can create new profile. A few days latter the problem is
back? We have users that logon and then remotely logon to a terminal server.

Please help.

Thank You

fair enough :)

Ok, my client calls me up...."why do I have a different background when I
logon" So when I check it out, I check the computer event viewer on that
computer and I see that windows is not loading the profile for that user. So
windows creates a temp default profile.

So what i did for this user, thinking that the profile is corrupt, I went
to Documents and Settings> looked for the user that is having the issue and
renamed the profile for that user from "joe" to "joe.old" so when user logs
on again windows will create a new profile. So this seemed to work and then I
get the call again? any clues, anyone?

Thank You

I have this problem on personal laptop with one user. I have Windows Home,
just downloaded program after using trial program without problems for 6
months. Now every time I log off and log back on my personal profile is not
saved. Also, my internet favorite files are missing.
