Strange behaviour from IE

Hi
I had a copy of IE6 SP2 (I think) running on a PC and it was misbehaving:

1. There was no information provided in the about screen ie no version
etc etc (that's why I am not 100% sure what the version was!)
2. Certain websites were not being shown correctly eg
www.national.com.au, where the top graghic was not being shown (this
happened on other sites as well, but not all and not all graphics)
3. Javascript hyperlinks were simply not working ie click them and
nothing happened
4. Pop ups were not happening, despite pop-up blocker being off, off, off!!

To try to resolve these strange issues, I downloaded IE7Beta3, and I
thought, wow, this looks good, tabbed browsing, all new look etc etc,
but, bugger me, exactly the same behaviour is happening with this new
version.

So, it can't be the version, it must be something else. I have looked
hard (and removed) viruses etc etc, and I now have 2 antivirus packages
working in the background, with no obvious pick up of new problems.

Any suggestions on what is causing this odd behaviour?
Cheers

What 3rd party popup blockers have you added to your computer? How about ad
control programs and additional I.E. toolbars (Yahoo, Google, AOL etc)?

Many of these will eliminate various items from displaying correctly if they
are mis-applied.

Do you have an all-in-one security suite? These likely contain modules that
may do the same as those mentioned above.

Lastly, check your I.E. properties/settings. Return internet security to the
default level. Set privacy to the default level.

Nope, still no joy. I stopped all antivirus software, I reset all IE7
settings to default, and still exactly the same problems.

Any other suggestions??
