stopping plug and play

I'm new to Windows XP, and one of the "nice" features
that is starting to become annoying is that whenever I
plug a device in to a port, Windows automatically finds
drivers and installs them, usually before I even have
more than a chance to react. Problem is, one thing I'm
trying to install requires you to NOT let Windows do
this, and I can't quite figure out how to stop Windows
from automatically taking care of it. Anyone know how to
disable this?

I do not believe that you can disable this feature, all
you would have to do is to install the software prior to
pluging in the HW.

Problem is, the hardware needs to be plugged in before
you start the install or it exits automatically.

damm, catch 22, just like our court systems. LOL, try this
go into services and disable plug & play, you might have
to disable shell hardware detection.

Good Luck
