Stop programs from starting

Helo, is there a way to get programs to stop loading at boot up other then in
the msconfig start up thing??
I can not seem to get several things from loading, forinstence- InCD a
program from Nero 6 I have unchecked it from the list in msconfig, and it
does stay unchecked, and it is no longer showing in the section next to the
clock at the bottom of the screen, and I have gone into the program itself
and unchecked the box for "start up on bootup. But it still shows in the
Taskmangr that it is running and it shows it is using a small porshion of my
RAM.
There are severall programs doing this.
So is there any way to get them to not load at all without having to
uninstall the program??
I am running Win XP Professional.

First thing to do is check Options or Preferences in the program itself and
turn off the option it has to start when Windows starts.

Well I have done that and on the programs that give me the option to not run
at start up I have checked the box to not open. But still they load up and
are running in the back round, MSMSNGR is one and there are a few like it
