Cannot get Yahoo messenger to stop automatically loading at start

Just downloaded Yahoo Instant Messenger because that's the one a friend of
mine uses but don't want it to automatically start every time I start up my
PC. Looked in startup folder but there's no shortcut there to remove. Have
tried unchecking the "start automatically" box on the program itself but that
doesn't work either. If someone knows how to stop this and other programs as
well from auto loading at start up, I would really appreciate it if you would
let me know how.
Thanks, Rob

Hello Rob; hope this helps. Just to confirm you followed this step.
First try: sign onto Yahoo Messenger. Left click with your mouse on the
drop down list called "Messenger" located top left. Scroll down and
click on preferences, or use keyboard shortcut "CTRL+SHIFT+P. On the
"Preferences Menu" Click General then uncheck the check box that
says "Automatically Start Yahoo Messenger!" under the category
called "When I start up my Computer" if this doesn't work; then
use MSConfig (Microsoft System Configuration utility ) that allows the
user to fine tune the applications that are launched at startup without
forcing the user to delve deep into the registry.
To disable some of the applications launched:
Click on Start in the lower left-hand corner, and then select Run;
Type the msconfig to load msconfig.exe from the run command line
Go to the Startup tab. From there, un-ticking the checkbox next to a
startup item will stop it from launching. Look for YAHOO MESSENGER
