I keep getting stop errors. Sometimes upon start up, sometimes after using
for a while. the errors have different messages: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, or
PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA, and occasionally others. Please help!

These are hardware-related errors assocated with physical memory as
well as devices and device drivers. Did these Stop Errors just started?
If so, what was done to the computer just before they started showing
up? Also, post back with some more information as the Blue Screens do
indicate the system file or system area where the problem has occurred.
And also take a look in Event Viewer.

A month ago, I installed a new 1GB RAM card. But before that, I upgraded from
Norton Internet Security to Norton 360. After getting Norton 360, my
notebook's performance slowed to a crawl. That's why I upgraded the RAM from
256+512 to
512+1GB. The performance improved SOME, but still slow, so I decided to try
switching AV programs. I downloaded AVG, disconnected from internet,
uninstalled N360, and installed AVG. After AVG performed a complete scan of
my system, I got the first blue screen. That was followed by black screen,
and no screen, so I used the Toshiba Restore Console to re-install Windows
XP. That seemed to work at first, but then the blue screens started again.
Here are errors I got:
STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbf87af89, 0xba565a58, 0x00000000)
Win32K.sys. address bf87af89 base at bf800000, date stamp 3f73195d
BIOS not ACPI compliant

next
STOP:
Windows error
BC Code 1000008e BCP1:c0000005 BCP2:bf849c48 BCP3: bid95bb4 BCP4:
00000000

next
Driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL
STOP:0x000000d1 (0x0-0, 0x0-02, 0x-01, 0xb2157ad1)

Then
PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA

Then
STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xb0978c70, 0xaf4e7680, 0x0-0)

So then I changed the RAM back to original, but still getting occasional
blue screens 8(daily).

Since the blue screens continued even after changing the RAM back to
original, I put the RAM in again as 512+1GB.

I don't know how to check Event Viewer.

Thanks for helping.

How old is the computer? What was the original operating system
installed on the computer?

This statement "BIOS not ACPI compliant" suggests to me the underlying
cause of your
problem. What is the make and model of your motherboard. Can you also
provide
details of your BIOS.

It is a Hardware failure, specially your RAM, try to take one Stick of RAM
out at a time and see if the issue will resolve or replace them with a
working one, be careful from the ESD discharge from your body, you could
frying them without being noticing you are doing so.
