stop error message and dreaded blue screen

I have this error message "the session manager initialization system process
terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034" and the screen also says
stop: c000021a fatal system error.

I have been trying all of the options using F8 and can't get it to go to
last known good configuration - i don't know how to get a command prompt in
safe mode - when i try i get a screen full of lines of text filling up the
screen with things like
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)windows/system32/drivers/tftdisk.sys, etc.
I would sure like to avoid reinstalling windows - this happened after Norton
Antivirus said I had some suspect files that I should delete, which I did and
now I can't get past the windows start-up screen - it just keeps trying to
reboot. If I could get into Windows I could do a system restore, but I can't
get there. I see lots of discussion on google, etc. about these types of
problems - can you help?

0xc000021a STOP error,where the ntoskrnl.exe or ntdll.dll files were not
replaced, Boot to Recovery Console, check version, date and time of
ntoskrnl.exe and ntdll.dll. expand them from the SP2 install source,
available in %windir%\servicepackfiles folder
