How do I get Win 2000 to promt me to power down rather
than doing it automatically?
 
If Win2K is auto-shutting down on you.

What is the EXACT message displayed stating while it is shutting down ?

I inferred that he means he wants it to go the screen where it reads "It is
now safe to shut down your computer" rather than the straight-through ACPI
shutdown without your having to press the power button.

If so, one of the ways would be to change the computer type in Device
Manager from an "ACPI" to a "Standard PC". I wouldn't doubt there's a
registry change for this that might be faster, but I do not know it.
