Still won't load up Windows......

I turn on the computer, Dell screen starts, then Windows XP screen starts
loading, then a black screen with white type shows telling me that if my last
shut down was interrupted, if escape key was unintenionally hit or if I'm
unsure what happened, choose from the list below. Then gives options to......
Start in......safe mode
safe mode with command prompts
safe mode with networking
Or start to last known good configuration.
Or start Windows normally.
At the bottom of this screen is a 25 second timer that counts down and if no
choice is selected, it starts Windows normally. I have tried all options.
It begins to load as normal with Windows screen initally appearing, then
shuts off with the blue screen showing STOP:c0000218 {Registry File}.
Registry cannot load the hive (file):\System Root\System 32\Config\SOFTWARE
or it's log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent or not writable.
Beginning dump of physical memory. Physical memory dump complete. Contact
your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
Blue screen stays up until I turn off the computer. Same response when I
choose to start in safe mode and start with last known good configuration.
Command prompts and networking only give screens with files listed with
inability to select any or move from those screens shown.

I have no clue where to go from here......

If anyone can help.......I really appreciate it.

I can't get a CD to start up in the computer. I attempted the restore CD and
it doesn't acknowledge anything is even in the disc player. This is
absolutely crazy!
Thanks Carey! I checked out the site, but don't see how it will help if I
can't get the disc to run.

You may have to amend boot order in bios to enable boot from cd
You did try and boot up with cd inserted?

Yes, DL, I did try to get the restore CD to run and managed to get it into
the disc player, while the Microsoft Window was up and attempting to load
Windows. There was no where to go from there, since it immediately went to
screen giving me options to start in safe mode, etc. Nothing would load up
in any mode and the blue screen shows up after the attempt to load Windows
fails. I have no clue where to go from here even with the information on the
website I was referred to for Windows XP Install Repair. I had shut it down
the night before with no problem at all. I didn't receive any email all day,
so I don't see how I could have acquired a virus of any kind. I had only
worked with my Picasa program, printing several pictures. With no problem
there either. Thanks for your assistance and if you know of anything I could
try, please let me know.

Thanks so much,
