I had tried doing it the way you described earlier but it wont let me reformat the partition that has windows on it already even after booting from cd.

Hi letch,

You have to delete the current partition(s) first, as Carey mentioned in
item #4

Regards

it wont let me delete it thats what i was trying to say.. guess i wasn't spacific enoug

Hi letch,

You could try d/loading the delpart.exe utility to a WIN98 startup floppy
disk (http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm), booting from that floppy
disk, and invoking delpart at the A: prompt. See if that utility helps you
to delete the partition in order to reinstall XP. If you don't have a WIN98
startup floppy disk, you can d/load the file to create one from here:
http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Click on the link for Windows 98 SE OEM and d/load it to hard drive. Once
d/loaded, put a formatted floppy disk in the drive, then double-click on the
d/loaded file in order to create the startup disk.
