I need to reinstall windows xp,my dvd/cd drive sometimes reads whatever media
is in it, sometimes does not, cant afford replacement.
Last night i put in xp cd and auto play started so it was reading, rebooted
with cd changed boot options, but cd wasnt recognized.booted into desktop
inside of explorer after several tries it "xp cd" loaded again. so i copied
everything to seperate partition. my dvd/cd player isnt working on nothing
now no cd or dvd
Now can i use that partition that i have xp media on to install windows? if
so how please?

Most cd/dvd players have firmware updates from the mfg web site, download
& install update.Once thru,at pc shutdown(power off),connect hardware to
another IDE connection (set jumper pins as needed),start pc,xp will reinstall
at start-up.As far as reinstalling xp to another partition, try booting to
xp cd
(set BIOS for this if needed, boot priority,or similiar),once at xp cd boot
menu,
delete partition, create one,let xp format & reinstall auto)..

The way it's typically done is copy folder i386 to a FAT partition on
the hard drive. Boot to DOS, and execute winnt.exe.

system installed in order to boot to dos? and if i am not mistaken windows
refuses to delete a partition that has windows on it?
