Sticks on applying computer settings during login

I have a IBM Thinkpad P4 with 512 MB RAM with Windows
XP. At Windows login it sticks on applying computer
settings for about 3 minutes and then continues to login
eventually. Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

See what you have starting with Windows by going to Start>Run and typing
"msconfig" without the quotes. Uncheck unnecessary programs on the
Startup tab. Perhaps you've got something set to start that isn't there
or that requires a long load time.
