Status Bar Defaults

XP never remembers my status bar settings for Windows Explorer or for
the Search Assistant. Each time the system has been shut down and
restarted, I have re-select the Status bar option. Is there way to make
the status bar visible by default with these two Windows components?

Thank you for helpful guidance on this issue.

Start Windows Explorer, check marked on View > Status bar.
click on Apply to All Folders from same windows explorer's menu Tools > Folder Options > View .

Actually, I thought I had done that a long time ago, but it seems to
be sticking now. Thanks for the suggestion.
