Staticy microphone

Why does my microphone sound severely staticy? I know that you'll hear a
little bit of static noises in the background, but it's severe to the point
where you can hear the static more than the voice. I've tried updating the
drivers with no use. I've also tried using a different microphone. I am
using a Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 sound card.

Some things to look at...

Check the mic connection.

Adjust the mic boost and volume settings in the mixer for the soundcard.

Location of monitor and other devices that emit EMI in relation to the mic.

Relocate the soundcard in a slot away from video card, network card and
modem (if applicable).

Try a different soundcard; the mic amp may be defective.

What about, "I've also tried using a different microphone." don't you
understand?

I wish some of you folks would actually *READ* posts before replying to
them!

It only makes the terrible static noises when there's sound, if the
background is quiet, there's no static noise.
