microphone boost keeps unchecking

I keep checking "Microphone boost" in "Advanced Controls for Microphone" but
it keeps getting unchecked. I use several voice call clients (Yahoo Voice,
Skype, MagicJack, VoipCheap) and, whenever the called party tells me that she
can barely hear me, I check Advanced Controls and find the "microphone boost"
unchecked.

Why doesn't the "check" stay put? What can I do?

Thank you.

Do those programs you listed have their own volume control ? It's
possible that one or more of the apps is applying it's own volume
settings, undoing what you've setup for your sound card/chipset audio.

Not much of a Skyper, but found this link that implicates Skype for
tinkering with that option and how to (maybe) tell Skype to leave it
alone:

The Skype community/forum is usually pretty good for the few problems
I posted out there.

Let us know how this works out in case it come up again.
