Static IP Auto DNS Problem

Comcast is changing the way they assign DNS servers, so I have to
reconfigure my home network to allow for this. I have 3 computers in my
house all sharing an internet connection via a router-hub, and we have
not had any troubles for the last couples of years.

The biggest problem is that my network uses static IP addresses and
hence, by WinXP restrictions, static DNS servers. It appears that I am
not allowed by winXP to configure my network connection to
automatically obtain a DNS server if, I am using a static IP.

How can I configure my winXP to use Automatic DNS and still have a
static IP?

Thank You

You don't say what sort of router-hub you use, but most of them will act
as DNS proxies. In other words *they* pick up the ISP DNS IP addresses
and what you do, on your network, is specify the *router* as the DNS
server. Then the router forwards all DNS requests to the ISPs DNS
servers. It's worth a look, anyway.

Cheers,

Thank you Cliff, your idea worked, my router does have the DNS proxy
capability.
