On startup, my Windows XP is loading the icon for Windows
Messenger (little green figures) AND an invalid network
connection icon (two little computers). Both are
interfering with the operation of my wireless ethernet and
I need to stop them from loading at startup. I am sure it
is something in the registry. Any ideas?

Run msconfig.exe to examine your startup tasks, then
disable those you don't require.
