Edit startup.

My startup tab in msconfic lists a command to a program (spyware, grrr...)
that I've removed. How can I edit my startup (and not just ticking the
corresponding box so it dosen't load) so that the command is completely gone?
I.e where does startup look for those commands - autoexec files? Last time
I knew anything about Windows, it was version 3.1....
