startup problem

Hi,

My wxp professional sp2 normally went perfectly but, apparently suddenly, it
doesn't start up more. The pc correctly executes the power on phase,
correctly recognizes the operating system installed, and then it displays
the windows options menu: "Start windows normally, safe mode, etc", but the
option "enable boot logging" doesn't seem to appear. Whatever choice I do,
in safe mode too, the hd works a few seconds, then stops, the cursor flashes
on the screen and xp doesn't execute the log-on phase. I think that it's
related to an hardware problem. I used microsoft memory diagnostic to verify
the ram, no error found.
I try to boot from cd, wxpsp2 pro setup starts, but the initial screen, when
you can decide to start the recovery console, or to begin a new
installation, never appear. The cursor flashes continuously and so, i
haven't any possibility to start the recovery console.
What should I do?
I'm sure, it's not a virus.
Pleas e help.

As a starting point, determine the make and model of hard drive where XP
lives and download from the manufacturer a diagnostic tool to check the hard
drive.
