Startup problem loop!

D

DaveP72

My computer has unexpectedly crashed after installing a software CD that
accompanied a piece of CCTV hardware. The software installed fine and I have
been using the program fine until I needed to restart after my copy of
Microsoft Outlook crashed. Now the computer is stuck in a start up loop!

As as soon as I get to the Windows XP Home screen the computer restarts
automatically and returns to the plain black screen.

I have tried each one of the options Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking,
Start Windows Normally, Last Known Good...all of which makes no difference.

I have the original Windows XP Pro installation CD-ROM disc.

Is it possible to start up from my installation disc?

Thank you.
Dave

Please post a complete Stop Error report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.

After posting the Stop Error report disconnect all hardware except
keyboard, mouse and monitor? Try a boot to safe mode.

Are the keyboard mouse and monitor wired or wireless?

A manual System Restore is probably your best bet:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545. If you have a suitable boot CD (e.g.
a Bart PE boot CD) then you can proably shorten the process by manually
restoring one of the System Restore "System" hives to the
c:\windows\system32\config folder. - On a humorous note: You write "My
computer has unexpectedly crashed . . .". Do you sometimes expect your
computer to crash? :)

yes, boot up with your
windows cd and select
repair to initiate the
recovery console.

after you log in and get
to the disk prompt run
the following commands:

chkdsk /p
fixboot

then "exit" remove cd
and enjoy.

Still can't get out the Mac mind set. I will give this a try if I still can't
get it working using the other methods mentioned here ;o)

Dave

I come from an Apple Mac environment where crashes seemed to happen to me
all of the time. I rarely have to hurl verbal abuse at my PC these days ;o)

Have you made any recent changes to RAM memory? How mamany memory sticks
are installed?

What is your computer make and model?

What is the make and model of the CCTV hardware and is there a name on
the software CD?

Would replacing the RAM possibly fix the problem?

I do not know the make and model of my computer - do need to know the name
of the processor?

The CCTV is a SENTIENT Compact 4-Channel Digital Video Recorder
Code: N82GB
Made by Maplins Electronics UK

There is nothing written on the software CD.

Hello, Thanks for the advice. I have just followed this proceedure, but it
hasn't worked. I still get the blue screen with the
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA message.

You can test RAM.
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

What is your motherboard make and model?

How many RAM sticks does your computer have?

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about
your computer:Everest Home Edition (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is
fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

What does the Software CD Instruction manual have to say about drivers?
Otherwise ask at Maplins.

ok, so the start up
loop would have
cleared up with the
commands you ran
from the disk prompt.

now the basis of the
system corruption is
presented in the error
message.

you might try to uninstall
the cctv since it is not
being cooperative with
your system.

here is some more info
on that error message:

I opened up the tower and notice there is one stick of RAM fitted.

I have not run the RAM diagnostic program just yet as I am having trouble
formating the only floppy disc that I can find (i don't use them much these
days).

Here is the info about the system;

BIOS Version: K7S41 BIOS P1.70
Processor Type: AMD Sempron (tm) 2600+
Processor Spedd: 1833MHz
L1 Cache Size: 128KB
L2 Cache Size: 256KB
Total Memory: 512MB with 64MB shared memory
DDR1: 512MB/166MHz(DDR333)
DDR2: None

The Maplins instruction manual is more like a user manual and doesn't
mention anthing about drivers.

Thanks for the links and for helping out with this.

Looks like an Asrock motherboard
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S41

Check whether there is a K7S41 on the board. Also get the precise
details on the memory stick.

I would ask the technical support staff in your local branch of Maplins.
There are helpful in Kidderminster if not always 100% on the ball but
they will have off site support. The product you purchase has a lengthy
warranty.

Hello John,

I used the LISTSVC that you have suggested and found a list of drivers
installed, but I am trying to determine which are the last drivers installed.
I s there are way of listing them in order of 'date installed' as the list is
in Alphabetical order only?

Thanks,
Dave

DaveP72

Hello Gerry,

Still haven't got the computer running. I have emailed technical support at
Maplins and asked them to list the drivers for the CCTV.

I tried replacing the 512MB RAM stick completely as well as doubling the RAM
with an extra stick of 512MB (total 1.024GB) and restarting the machine but I
get exactlly the same error as before in each case.

The motherboard has a slot marked K7S41 which is empty.

I don't know for sure, I would have to run the Console to find out. For
more help use the HELP command or use the help switch with the command:
LISTSVC /?

You said this started with the installation of a piece of CCTV hardware,
you can search the internet for the services returned by the LISTSVC
command and find out what they are and which one(s) belong to the CCTV
hardware.
