Startup is wiped after reboot!

Evertime I reboot all my programs suchas messenger, firefox, ventrillo, and
other programs forget all my data. As well it seems everytime I download
something it goes into the TEMP folder. Pelase help me as I am losing alot of
work everytime I reboot.
