starting without permission

Powerpoint and sometimes Word have begun to start themselves. I always get an
error message before they start ' there was a problem last time it started.
I have not added it to my startup, the startup folder and the 'Scotty' Win
Patrol does not show either of these on its startup info.
The problem started about two weeks ago. I have done a registry restore to
before that date and it still happens.
Thanks for any help on this.
