Windows Defender not loading after update

Ever since I updated AVG's Anti-Virus to the latest version 2-3 weeks ago
I've been having a problem with windows defender. I have win defend set for
real time protection and to load on startup. Since the AVG update the program
does not auto start. I have to always manually start the program so it's
running after I restart my computer although autostart is checked in the win
defend program. Looking at my startup programs in msconfig win defend is
checked as a startup item there also but still doesn't start.

I've seen a lot of problems here with Norton or other anti-virus programs so
I went on the AVG website to look for answers but found none. Found nothing
here too.

Can anyone help?

Engine Version: 1.1.5202.0
Definition Version: 1.69.301.0

Win Vista home Premium
64 bit
service pack 2
 
The AVG forums should be able to provide a definitive answer on this, but I
believe what you are seeing is expected--that AVG is intentionally disabling
Windows Defender just as other antimalware vendors do when they also provide
an antispyware function.
 
No solution but since misery loves company, your situation has occurred on
all 3 of my computers once I upgraded AVG.
 
Do you draw a conclusion from that?
