Starting up

When I boot up my computer, it loads quickly until it
hits EXPLORER.exe (I know this because I watch on TAsk
Manager) and then it slows down to almost a stop - memory
usage just clicks along very slowly) and then when it
finishes loading, speed picks up again and it quiclky
finishes the boot up procedure.
I had this problem before, and reinstalled Windows, it
was gone for a few weeks, and now it is doing it again. I
don't want to have to reinstall again unless I have to.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Hi. I have exactly the same problem. I don't know if
it's Explorer where the hangup starts, though. I get the
Desktop and all its icons fast, then three programs load
in the taskbar, then it crawls along for about 2 minutes
before the rest of the items load and I get the Start
Windows .wav sound. I even used by digital camera to
capture the Task Manager at different points in the bootup
cycle. In looking at my picture again, it seems that
explorer.ext loaded early on, and that the hangup was
while loading something called spoolsv.exe. Once that
comes on the remaining 5 items load quickly.

I saw your post while looking for mine, which I think is
earlier in the day. If you get any feedback on this,
PLEASE let me know directly at (e-mail address removed).
If I find a solution, I will try to find your posting
again and leave a message, or you can forward your e-mail
address to me.

The problem here is on my wife's computer, an HP
Pavilion. This began happening right after I installed
the software CD for an HP 950 printer/scanner/fax combo
unit. I even uninstalled the software completely, but the
problem persists. My delay, from the time you hit the
Power button until you can use the machine is 2 minutes
and 20 seconds. I sure hope we can get some help!
