Starting Up WinXP (Welcome Screen)

I am running WinXP on a home PC.

How can I skip a step at start up? A screen comes up and you have to click
on a name (has a picture next to it) to complete the log on process, it's
the screen where you choose which user you want to log on as. I don't have
any other users on my home PC so I want it to go straight through this
process. It just started going to this screen recently, never used to have
to worry about it.

Isn't there another way of doing this. I'm not too keen on changing the reg
as I am not confident that if anything goes wrong I'll be able to reverse
the changes in regedit.

Hi Ben,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

If you read the whole KB article, you would have notice the "control
userpasswords2" method. This does not involve you editing any registry
entry.
