Windows automatically runs any program in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder. (Start Menu > All Programs >
Startup)
Dear Sir,
Windows in built MSCONFIG is a good uttility. But I recommend that you use a
spyware software (say Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta or SpyBot which are free).
There you will find a startup programme list. You can block any of the
programme. But be careful to block any programme. It may destabilise your OS.
You may also try Start>run>"services.msc" command to know what the services
currently running, but really be careful to stop any service. If you are at
all interested being a Home user what are the programme to be blocked, I can
send you a list which I need to find out. You may contact me at
(e-mail address removed) if you really want to know.
I use a program called StartupCPL from http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml. It installs an applet that runs from
your Control Panel. In my early days of Windows XP-Pro it was advised not
to use MSCONFIG as we always did in earlier Windows versions. I don't
remember why now, but I remember being advised that. Evidently, today that
advice has changed. But, I still like and use StartupCPL.
