Start-up

I have two questions about "Start-up" which you get to by going to
"start" then "All programs" and then "start-up" which lists a whole
bunch of programs:

1) I've been having trouble turning off my lap-top (it sometimes
freezes up and doesn't shut off) and a friend of mine said it's because
I have too many programs on "start-up" and it's interfering with the
shut down process.

Should I remove those programs from "start-up" and, if so, how do I do
it?

Will I still have access to those programs? I use them and don't want
to lose them.

2) I notice that one of the options under "start-up" is something that
says "don't click here". Seems weird to me...could it be a virus? If
so, how do I get rid of it?

I thank you in advance for your attention to these questions...

BY deleting these programs from start shouldn't prevent you from using them
you just won't have access to them in the quick launch or task bars. You'll
have to open them by clicking start all programs. I really think your friend
is refering to is to click start then run, type msconfig and select startup
those are the the actual programs that run at startup and have to close for
shutdown.
