Start-up

I use WindowsXP Professional. Some of the other programs
I have installed start at boot up. What causes this, and
how can I control it? I have looked in the start-up
folders (of the programs folders), autoexec.bat,
autoexec.nt and can not find anything. I have looked
through some books and can't figure out how these various
programs start.

The problem usually lies within the programs you are talking about.

Unfortunately you didn't mention any of them, but a lot are able
to be loaded when you boot up as an option. So check the options within the
programs you didn't mention
