This is for a friend I am asking this question. I suggested she run adaware,
spybot & Norton from "safe" mode and see if it helps. Any help would be
appreciated.
"My computer has started 'locking up', for lack of better terminology, at
start up. It gets to the desk top and then anything you try to do, it
freezes. I generally have to do a hard shut down and restart. Sometimes one
time sometimes several times before it will work properly. It seems to
function relatively normal after that. I'm thinking it has a virus? Or RAM
issue? Or? I've dumped the temporary internet files, defragged and ran
Norton, but none of that made any difference.
The computer is approx 5 yrs old. Windows XP home version. 512 MB RAM. 40 GB
hard drive (came with 60GB, but when it crashed a few years ago, technician
replaced with 40).
I'm really thinking new computer, but don't want to spend money unnecessarily.
Thanks for your thoughts."
