By accident I moved the My Pictures folder to my external hard drive...I had
only wantwd to copy it to there.....I cannot simply move it back as it has
been several months and that drive is now dead......is it possible to restore
that folder so it shows up on the right side of my start menu again like the
My Music folder?

Ramesh, MS-MVP

Duchie,

Yes. Fix the shell folder path for My Music.

OK...I tried that and I could see where the My Pictures folder is.....I reset
the folder path but I still don't see it on the right side of my Start
menu......do I need to create that folder again? I made a new picture folder
in my documents but when I click on it's properties it is not a target folder
like the My music one is.....I hope this makes sense......so what do I need
to do to completely restore a target folder that was moved and is not longer
available?

Ramesh, MS-MVP

Duchie,

Sorry! You need to fix the "My Pictures" shell folder data, not "My Music".
Also, if the My Pictures folder does not already exist, create one under "My
Documents".

If that does not help, export the following registry branch and include the
data in your reply.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ User Shell Folders

Duchie,

The path is incorrectly set. It should be:

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures

*not* %USERPROFILE%\My Pictures

Refer the table here.
