Start Menu Doesn't Stick? Not the Classic Start Menu...The New XP Start Menu...

Yesterday I switched from the Classic Start Menu to the 'normal' XP Start
Menu. When I click on Start the menu appears above. But when I move the
mouse pointer up into the blue field right above the green Start the whole
menu drops out and gone. If I then try all over again it seems to stick
and work okay. After an undetermined time or other unknown events when I
return and click on the Start this problem starts all over again.

Also, if I hold the LMB down and move into the menu field the menu will
never disappear.

Also, this menu loss after clicking on Start only seems to happen over the
Desktop. If I have an application open that the Start and its Menu open up
on top of the menu stays put.

Any ideas? Thank you.

I am a very disgruntled XP owner! I have about zero respect for M$ dumping
so much crap connectivity gee whiz features in their OS and the entire
software industry only warranting the media and never the content. The
computer is such a sucker industry no one will ever have a chance to wake
up and smell the coffee.
