Hi,

strange problem here : if I delete an item from start menu or move it around
in start menu subfolders, th eitem remains displayed in place
- but if I right click on it nothing happens ( it is no more there although
still displayed)
- if I right-click and sort on start menu or subfolder where operation has
been done, the items are correctly displayde ( ie deleted one disapears ) !
- simply closing start menu and opening it again is not sufficient : I need
to sort to apply teh modifications !

Any idea ?????

Win XP PRo SP2

TIA

It sounds like a display issue : slow refresh of the start menu folders.
Pressing F5 or sorting, as you've discovered, will refresh the display.

Nothing to tweak to get normal behaviuou ? Didn't have this when using XP
PRO SP1a with exact same hardware
Rather annoying when you try to optimize your start menu !

The start menu is a graphical representation pulled from folders under two
different accounts: all users and your own account. So that probably
account for some of the slowness. Display drivers may come into the
picture. Probably half a dozen other possible causes but none that can be
tweaked.

Perhap, take a different approach: Right click start and select Explore.
Right click again and select Explore All Users. You should now have two
Explorer windows open - one for each source used to create the graphical
start menu.

Make your changes in the Explorer windows. Click start or tap the Windows
key now and then to check your progress.

Even if I do so, I have to force refresh of the start menu -> programs
aspect to display the modifications done in explorer ( in explorer it is
instanteneous as should be)
It is as if the start menu had lost its properties !

I have delocated it from C:\docs & settings\my name\start menu to a data
drive ( to avoid lossing settings when restoring older image, and to
separate what is really system from what is data in any way)

Coudl it be the start menu lost some mysterious system propertuy doing so ?
