Start Button Shortcut menu

Is there a way in Windows XP-Home to add, delete, or edit an item that is on
the shortcut (context) menu you see when you right-click the Start button?

What, exactly, do you have in mind? What that is is a context menu for the
folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu. What item would you
want to add?

Try not to call a Context menu a "shortcut" menu. It isn't.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I confused you when I called it a
"shortcut" menu; although I thought I had made it clear what I was referring
to when I said that it displays when you right click the start button. I'm
not referring to the icons on the Start Menu. What is feeding the context
menu that appears when you Right -Click the Start Button; or how can you
delete something from it.

No problem. I was just correcting your terminology so you don't encounter
communications problems in the future. I understood what you meant. If you
just say Context Menu, so will everyone else.

The entries in a context menu, particularly the ones that are added by
applications, are located in a few different parts of the Registry. Which
one do you want to remove? Is this the only context menu it appears in?

Gary, I'd like to remove: "Add to VLC media player's Playlist" and "Play with
VLC media player" also "Scan with AVG" and scan with AVG Anti-Spyware". I
couldn't find how to do that through the programs like I did with Winamp.
Thanks again for your help.

Like I said, this stuff is found in various places in the Registry, and can
be tricky to figure out. Sometimes you can just search the Registry on the
string in the context menu and the entries will pop up. Sometimes it's more
complicated. Only ones I know about (and I don't know about all of the ones
on my machine right now) don't include yours. Sorry about that, but let's
hope someone else will drop by and give you details on your specific items.
Or, you can start a new thread with the Subject: "How do I remove AVG from
context menus?"

I assume that you mean the flyout menu when you hover the mouse over 'All
Programs'. These are stored in a couple of locations.

For the items presented to all users, they are in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

The items in this menu appear above the line and the items below the line
are in the 'Programs' folder in the same location. In addition, items that
are presented on a user account basis are stored in:

C:\Documents and Settings\{account name}\Start Menu

A sub folder can be created in 'Programs' (or probably already exists)
called 'Startup'. Any shortcut in this folder causes the application to
automatically start as part of the log on process (though isn't the only way
of achieving this).
