Hi,

I just bought a ThinkPad laptop (XP Pro EN) and I'm wondering how to remove
a shortcut (icon) in the start menu:

The shortcut is visually situated below the "run" and the "search" shortcut
in the start menu (just above the "log off" shortcut). I've never saw a
shortcut at this location before. When I right click on it, I can't move it
nor delete it. It must be in the registry?!

I just want to get rid of this annoying shortcut!!

Thanks!

Usually that's where the computer manufacturer includes a link to
itself. If you're using the normal XP start menu, right click on the
Start button, select Properties, go to the Start Menu tab and click
"Customize," click the Advanced tab, and finally, scroll through the
list of "Start menu items" and UNcheck "Manufacter Link." OK your way out.

Hi and thanks for your prompt suggestion!

Unfortunately, I've already tried that one and the shortcut isn't listed in
the list :(

Try here in the Registry and see if it is obvious.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

If not, then post the exact name you see and someone may know of it.

Yipee!!

You made me think about searching the registry for the shortcut target
string ("c:\documents&set\all users\Start Menu\ThinkVantage Productivity
center.lnk")

I found 1 match.. then I deleted the parent key {?????? ?????? ????? ?????}
(a CLSID)

Rebooted... no longer in my legs!!

Thanks all!
