prob 1 - sounds like explorer.exe is not running, so do a new task as you
said and browse for C:/Windows/explorer.exe.
this doesn't really solve anything in the long run though, although you'd
get your desktop back i think. could you possibly copy a shortcut to explorer
into the startup folder in the program menu and see if that worked? not sure
about it but you could try
