eWhile using Task Manager I accidently ended the Explorer task. Tha start

After your computer has started, hit ctrl-alt-del to get into task manager,
click on FILE-->NEW TASK enter EXPLORER.EXE this should allow your desktop ,
icons, and start menu to reappear.

Maybe this one?

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

A few other things I found with a Google Groups search:

"Is ActivIcon installed on the PC? I believe it can
hide the start button"

"Looks like you need to roll back the installation. Reboot
and depress and hold F8, choose "Last Known Good
Configuration" "

"You can make them come back... go to task manager, then
Processes and look for explorer.exe end the task.
Then go to New task (run) and type in explorer.exe, click ok.
and everything will come back... "

Thanks, Joe

The problem started when I accidently ended the Explorer task. I tried
restarting Explorer.exe from task manager. The start menu flashes but does
not stay on the screen.

When I tried running number 117 from the web site you gave me I didn't
understand the directions at the top of the page. I still downloaded both 117
and 195
but the problem still exist. I don't know weither I ran 117 correctly.

Thank you very much for your help.

117 is a .reg file. Right-click its link, click Save As, save as
nodesktop.reg and then go to the file, right-click it, click Merge.

Hmm.. you might look through msconfig to see if anything is disabled.

Thanks, Joe

I looked but nothing looked to me like it was disabled.

I am still hoping that someone will see this and know how XP starts these
things
and be able to tell me how to restart them.

I think that if I can restart them the sytem will save my settings the same
way it did when I ended them.

I was VERY surprised when an action of ONE user changed the settings for ALL
other users.

I am also surprised that XP didn't prevent me from ending the Explorer task
like it does for other system tasks.

I am still hoping someone out there can help me.

Thanks for your help,

Paul
