Windows XP: Explorer crashes after boot

Hello folks,

after booting Win XP Home Ed. the task bar appears, but no icons on
the desktop. After a while the task bar vanishes. No programs can be
run by me (no start menu, no windows key, no context menu on the
desktop etc.)

The process can be followed with the task manager, it can clearly be
seen that explorer.exe is loaded, but disappears after a while.

There seems to be a problem with virtual memory, but I it is not 100%
clear whether it is related to the above mentioned problem.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

thanks for Your reply, but I do not think that the toolbar repair
(Your first link) would be sufficient. And I have concerns with regard
to the OS-repair. Will I retain the settings and the installed progs
with this? This would be important.

If anybody out there encountered this problem already and has a
suggestion how to solve it without a comprehensive repair process do
not hesitate to drop a message ;-)

Cheers
