Explorer ended

While using Task Manager I accidently ended the Explorer task. The start
Menu/Task Bar and desktop icons disappeared. When I logged off the system
saved the current settings. Now when I logon as ANY user including the
NEWUSER I created I get a blank screen only and the Explorer task is not
started.

I would like to know how I can re-set the parameter/s that causes the
Explorer and other items to start at logon.

Thanks

Try system restore to yesterday say for example by doing this:
Click the set of keys Window + R on your Keyboard in the Run command type
this:
%systemroot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe. Click [OK] and chose your Restore
Point to the or before you made your changes.
HTH.
Please let us know.

Thanks for you help. I tried the restore but there were no restore points.

Can you help me find out what parameter tells Windows XP to start the
Explorer ?

Thanks, Paul
