Start AOL 8 in XP Home & get blue screen and crash

Hi. I was using AOL 8, until every time I would try
to start AOL, it caused my computer to crash (error
message, blue screen of death, then I would have to
manually shut down my computer...it finally got so bad I
had to reformat my hard drive). I switched to MSN8, and I
love it, however, MSN's E-Mail program leaves a lot to
desire.

AOL is offering me 2 months free to come back with Version
9. I see from searching in here that the problem remains
with that version as well. I printed out some of the
solutions from John here in the newsgroup, and 2 MS KB
articles, but they don't really seem to cover my issue. I
was wondering if anyone could tell me if a fix has been
offered for this problem with AOL? Thanks for any help and
or links, Prank

Usually anyone who asks for help with AOL in the microsoft.*
newsgroups gets a fairly rude response, claiming AOL is incompatible.

But I tend to think
Let those whose sofware isn't known worldwide for being buggy and
incompatible with everything that came before cast the first stone.

I have one person using AOL 8 on XP Pro and they are having no
problems with it. Two others have stuck with AOL 5, which some
informed people say was the least problematic version they had
released.

Have you tried installing and turning on the Dr. Watson diagnostic
tool in Windows? When something crashes it will try to capture
some of the information about what went wrong. Unfortunately, most
software support people seem to claim that it doesn't give them
anything they can use to deal with problems. That is a pitiful
state of affairs. But you might get a clue if you look at the
description it gives.

One other item, if you go to the Microsoft website and you look
at the list of all the things supposedly fixed by SP1, I think I
remember seeing at least one fix that specifically mentioned AOL.
Go down through the update pages and you should find a link to
the list of everything supposedly fixed by SP1. Maybe that could
give you another clue, maybe not.

Over 250 domains have tracked down Swen and put a stop to it.
And then we have these problem children, spewing Swen to the world.

Thanks Don, I've tried Dr. Watson in the past, with
little success. I also have SP1 installed as well, as I'm
a stickler for privacy and security because I both
purchase and pay bills online. I also update daily, both
Windows and Norton Anti-Virus and Firewall.

Thanks so much for your kind assistance Don, and I'll
check into Dr. Watson again, and also check out AOL's
site as well. If anyone else has any ideas or links,
please help out a fellow surfer who can't seem to find
his own behind with both hands! Prank
